It is long past time for us, as a State and as a Nation, to get serious about climate change. The science is real: our world is warming at an alarming rate. Indeed, the speed of global warming has consistently outpaced our predictions. And here in the Ocean State where so many people live by the coast or depend on the ocean for their livelihood, we will be among the first to experience the worst of its effects. As Treasurer, I intend to leverage state funding in order to encourage cities and towns to adopt zoning and land use laws that encourage sustainable energy infrastructure, ensure state-financed construction projects move forward with an eye toward sustainability, and expand funding for green construction projects through the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank.
